Veil captures the quiet moment between what has been and what is yet to come—a gentle opening into possibility.
Layers of colour, light and atmosphere suggest the sky shifting as illumination emerges through cloud. There is a sense of movement within the work, as though the landscape is changing before the viewer’s eyes and revealing something previously hidden.
Rather than depicting a particular place, Veil invites each viewer to bring their own story and meaning to the artwork. It may represent a new home, a fresh chapter, a personal transformation or simply the hopeful feeling that something beautiful is beginning.

Anne Toovey has spent much of her life immersed in the arts as an artist, curator, gallery manager, educator and teacher. Holding a Master of Creative Arts (Visual Arts), she returned to an intensive studio practice in 2025.
Her paintings move between the recognisable and the abstract, using layered colour, luminous light and expressive marks to evoke emotions and memories rather than simply describe a place. Inspired by Queensland’s changing landscapes and artists such as J.M.W. Turner, Anne explores how clouds, water and shifting light can hold experiences that are often difficult to express in words.
Her return to painting has already earned significant recognition, including Best of Show at the 2025 Ipswich Art Awards, with her work now held in private collections.
Her painting Veil reflects transition and possibility, capturing light emerging through atmosphere and the hopeful sense that, beyond what can currently be seen, something new is beginning.
