Dario has been fortunate to observe Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos in the wild on both the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Like their Red-Tailed relatives, these striking birds are shy and hesitant to allow people close. However, Dario has been able to observe their beautiful details, animated expressions and subtle smiles, which seem to reflect the happy disposition often associated with parrots.
As a local artist inspired by Australia’s natural environment, Dario creates realistic portrayals of native wildlife using watercolour, acrylics, oils and pencil. His work captures not only the appearance of his subjects, but also their character and intelligence.
Through this artwork, Dario hopes to celebrate the beauty of the Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo while drawing attention to the threats facing its population. Protecting the habitats of these remarkable birds is essential to ensuring they remain part of Australia’s landscape for generations to come.

Dario Zanesco is a local artist whose work celebrates the beauty and diversity of Australia’s natural environment. Inspired by his travels through remote regions of Queensland and the Northern Territory, Dario creates realistic depictions of native birds, wildlife and landscapes, from cockatoos, galahs and eagles to striking eucalyptus trees and vivid outback scenery.
Working across watercolour, acrylics, oils and pencil, he combines soft, subtle detail with the rich colours of Australia’s red earth, foliage, skies and birdlife. More recently, Dario has returned to a childhood fascination with fish and marine creatures, finding new inspiration beneath the water.
Through his art, Dario hopes to deepen people’s appreciation of nature and raise awareness of the environmental threats it faces. He believes that portraying the natural world with beauty, purity and accuracy can inspire people to understand what is at stake—and why it is worth protecting.
