The Ascent’ explores the truth that meaningful success is rarely achieved overnight. It is built gradually through hard work, discovery, persistence and the courage to keep moving when the destination is unclear.
‘Journey’ represents the foundations. Its earthy, mineral-inspired palette and geometric textures evoke the digging required to uncover life’s most valuable lessons. Each mark becomes a building block, while rising gold leaf illuminates moments of discovery.
‘Path’ looks towards open skies, distant mountains and new horizons. Although there may be forks and unexpected detours, the way forward will be illuminated—we need only trust our intuition and continue.
Together, the panels form one continuous ascent: the experiences that shape us and the possibilities that call us forward. This piece is an appreciation and acknowledgement of the hard work behind every achievement—the unseen steps, difficult choices and quiet persistence that eventually lead us towards the top.
Hue Kedge is a mixed-media artist whose work explores identity, transformation and the stories we carry.
Her inaugrual body of work, the ‘Unravel Collection, is a figurative mixed-media collection examining the many layers of identity—what we reveal, what we protect and what begins to emerge as we unravel the experiences and expectations that have shaped us.
Hue combines photography with watercolour, gold leaf, texture and stitching to create works that move between the real and the imagined. Photography provides the foundation, watercolour introduces movement and emotion, gold leaf highlights moments of value and discovery, while texture and stitching represent the marks, connections and experiences that hold us together.
